What a roommate agreement is
A roommate agreement is a written understanding between roommates about rent shares, deposits, bills, chores, guests, and move-out notice. It is for the people sharing the home — not a substitute for the lease with the landlord.
When people use it
Use it when two or more roommates want a shared record of who pays what and how the household will run. Fill in each roommate’s share of rent and deposit, how bills are split, and any house rules you agree on.
This agreement does not replace the lease and does not bind the landlord unless the landlord signs it. Each roommate usually remains responsible to the landlord under the lease itself.
